James Humbert Craig

James Humbert Craig was born in 1877 in Belfast. He studied at Belfast School of Art for only a few weeks and therefore he is mostly self taught landscape painter. His first appearance in the RHA was in 1915 and he continued to contribute his works here until his death in 1944. As well as the Royal Hibernian Academy, Craig was also a part of the Royal Ulster Academy. He exhibited work in the Fine Arts Society in London. His passion derived from the outdoors and landscapes painted from the such places as the Glens of Antrim, Donegal and Connemara. After his death a memorial exhibition took place in 1944 in Belfast Museum and Art Gallery.
